Roundtable
The Credit Squeeze and the Impact on Urban Business Growth
Moderator
Renee Bizer - Wells Fargo

Panelists
Hector V. Barretto - Former Administrator, US SBA; Chair, The Latino Coalition
Paul Hudson - CEO, Broadway Federal Bank
Frank Robinson -  Vice President, Union Bank

Small businesses are facing more restrictions at lending institutions, making it harder to get the credit necessary to expand, or in some instances, keep their doors open. The Small Business Administration reports that the number of business loans made through its 7(a) program has declined this fiscal year by more than 15 percent compared to last year. This type of decline is indicative of stricter lending standards

This important roundtable will give the business owner firsthand knowledge about the impact of monetary policy and interest rate on the availability of capital, the short- and long-term outlook for the economy, lending institutions’ credit policies and most importantly, how to prepare to weather the situation.

Through programs such as CalPER’s California Initiative, public pension funds are increasingly directing investment funds to inner cities and urban centers. They are providing start-up and growth capital for companies that employ workers who live in traditionally underserved areas, a number of which are led by women and minority entrepreneurs and managers.

With typical returns from these targeted investments matching or exceeding the return from traditional investments, more pension funds are joining the trend.

This session will provide information on this important source of investments for urban-based entrepreneurs looking to grow medium to large-scale companies.

In today's marketplace, brand recognition means big business. Building a brand is more than just creating a cool logo, business cards, and flyers—its knowing how to translate your company's image or message into an integrated marketing system that works across multiple divisions, products or cultures. Within the nucleus of successful advertising or sales is the DNA of your brand that differentiates your company within a very competitive
marketplace.

While some powerhouse corporations formulate their brands using complex global strategies and consultancies, the branding success of our guest panelists know the pulse of today's popular urban marketing trends and demonstrate that your company doesn't have to be big…to promote a big brand.

A few of the topics our “B” Big panel will discuss are:

• The Urban Brand
• Creating a complete brand package
• Discover your brand and embrace its energy
• Forecasting and positioning
